Industrial activities conducted over the past 150 years by the Chemie Uetikon factory have left a mark on the lakebed adjacent to Uetikon. Investigations carried out by Canton Zürich show that lake sediment around the Chemie Uetikon site contains high levels of pollutants. Fertilizer production by the chemical factory is responsible for this contamination.
The contaminated sediment in the lakebed is now being remediated. The project involves removing the contaminated sediment from depths of up to 30 metres, while also adhering to legal requirements and carefully considering the entire ecosystem, the drinking water supply, and the lake as a recreational landscape.
GEOTEST supports the client in project organisation and coordination between all project participants
The remediation is being carried out on behalf of Canton Zürich’s Office for Waste, Water, Energy and Air (AWEL) together with Zeochem AG (formerly Chemie Uetikon AG), and ARGE Marti Uetikon is implementing the project as the principal contractor. In this challenging project, GEOTEST represents the interests of the client in relation to the principal contractor during the entire planning and implementation process and is also responsible for supervising and monitoring the project. GEOTEST supports the client in project organisation and coordination between all project participants (e.g. principal contractor, technical experts, permitting authorities, property owners), leads meetings, and prepares the supporting information for decision-making. In addition, GEOTEST is responsible for risk management and regular reporting. The project manager from GEOTEST is available to the client when required and also provides technical advice.
